Durability
We can provide formal Durability Assessments of the long term performance of non-traditional or innovative systems.
Increasingly clients, insurers and mortgage lenders are looking for long term durability from building assets and components.
We can offer Durability Assessments either as part of the Technical Review of a scheme registered for insurance, or independently on behalf of the manufacturer or potential users of a system.

What actually is a Durability Assessment? What actually is a Durability Assessment? | | | | A BLP Durability Assessment provides an opinion of the expected service life of a building component or assembly and gives assurance of durability to users and specifiers of a component, assembly or building.
• The detailed assessment makes explicit the environments and conditions in which the component or assembly is to be used. The factors which affect durability, the most likely failure modes and rates of degradation are identified and quantified to determine the expected service life.
• Key design and installation assumptions which influence durability are stated. Interface detailing and maintenance which impact on durability is highlighted. The durability assessment can be extended to include specific requirements, such as thermal performance.
The end result is a Durability Assessment for the component, assembly or construction which should provide comfort about expected long term performance.
What’s the value of a Durability Assessment? What’s the value of a Durability Assessment? | | | | The Homes and Communities Agency (previously The Housing Corporation) through its Scheme Development Standards recognises BLP as an appropriate organisation for providing independent technical approval of non-traditional house systems. Additionally, since BLP is approved by the Council of Mortgage lenders and by the majority of lenders, the provision by BLP of a New Home Warranty on a scheme or property incorporating innovative construction methods will be a strong indicator of its acceptance by the lending community.
BLP does not require an innovative system to have an independent 3rd party accreditation in order to provide a Certificate of Approval on a property.
